Arizona is home to vibrant big cities and extraordinary small towns that showcase the unmatched beauty the state has to offer, not just to the people who call it home but to anyone who visits to see what makes the Grand Canyon State so special.

Thrillist compiled a list of the "must-visit small town" in every state, smaller destinations that offer "a respite from big-city life" and a glimpse of the "romanticism of small towns" in America. From beach towns promising white sandy shores to mountainside villages and idyllic coastal havens, the list is full of locales you simply have to see for yourself.

Of all the unique spots around Arizona, the state's best small town to visit is Sedona. With a population of around 10,000, this location has not just stunning views but interesting activities, an eclectic atmosphere and delicious restaurants. According to the site:

"Arizona's red-rock playground offers seriously breathtaking desert landscapes best enjoyed on a hike or a climb, and a walk around town mingling with kooky-but-kind locals. Take off your boots and zen out with a massage and guided meditation session at one of Sedona's many spas, or binge on top-notch tamales from Tamaliza and gussied-up carne asada at Elote Cafe. When you start itching for a punchier after-hours scene, the very-hip Flagstaff is less than an hour down the road."
