Thanks to Americans working from home for the past year and a half or so, their dogs have gotten used to them being at home all the time. That means it may be hard once folks start heading back to the office. But the question is – who will it be harder for, the dogs or their owners?

A new survey finds:

  • 47% of dog owners admit they feel some separation anxiety when they aren’t with their pooches.
  • That’s particularly true for dog owners in Arizona, with their anxiety ranking 13.1% higher than the national average, with New York 11.03% higher.
  • Such separation anxiety has major effect on dog owners plans.
  • When it comes to traveling, most will only be away from their pooch an average of nine days.
  • And during a typical day, they’d only leave them home alone about 6.7 hours a day.

Of course owners aren’t alone being miserable.

  • 76% of owners insist their pets suffer from separation anxiety when they are not at home.
  • As for how pets show their separation anxiety:
    • They bark and make noises (50%)
    • Thy urinate and defecate at home (25%)
    • They destroy property (25%)

Because of this, many dog owners would just prefer to stay with their pets as much as they can.

  • 70% of people say they’d end a relationship if a partner didn’t let their dog be around as much as they want.
  • Almost the same amount want to continue working from home just to help their dog.
  • 40% have also canceled plans if they couldn’t bring their dog.
