We know that not all vegans are bad people, but here’s a great reason why so many people seem to get annoyed by folks who follow a plant-based diet.
A recent Twitter thread shared on Best of Nextdoor, a Twitter account dedicated to neighbor-on-neighbor pettiness, revealed the ridiculous request one vegan runner made of their neighbors.
Apparently the runner, from Berkley, California, finds the smell of cooked meats “overpowering” so, now that the weather is getting nicer, they asked neighbors to close their windows when they cook, and to also refrain from grilling meats outdoors. They added, “Quite honestly, the odor is offensive and I'm hoping our community can have some empathy for its plant-based neighbors.”
The writer also had the nerve to share, “I don’t want to be a sterotype so I won’t go into detail on why the odor of cooking animals is offensive,” adding, “but I encourage you to do research and join the movement of pple fighting back.”Check out the full post below:
- Well, it’s no surprise that folks on the Internet didn’t take kindly to this vegan runner’s request, and the post was re-tweeted more than 1,200 times and liked 9.700 times. Plenty of people chimed in with their thoughts too.
- “As a carnivore BBQ chef, it's always hard for me this time of year when the weather starts warming up and vegan runners start running by my windows,” one person wrote.
- Another added, “Might I suggest a much simpler solution. Don't run at dinner time,” noting, “Everybody has to eat and not to cook meat on the BBQ because one person doesn't like it is pure hubris on your part.”
- Finally, even a fellow vegan thought this request went a bit far noting, “I'm vegan and I oppose this message.”
